Foundation Certificate in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language

Chinese Writing Competition for Schools in the UK

In order to promote Chinese language learning and teaching in UK schools, the London Confucius Institute is organising a Chinese Writing Competition for all school students studying Chinese in the UK as a supplementary competition to the annual Chinese Speech Competition. The competition is sponsored by the HSBC Education Trust and organised in conjunction with the British Council. All UK schools teaching Chinese language are welcomed to participate in the competition. Two types of entrants - those with and without a Chinese language background - will be judged separately.

Competition groups & contents:

Category I: Written Homework (daily homework such as copying characters, making sentences, translation, etc.)

Age Group 1: Year 7 – Year 11 (to GCSE)
Age Group 2: Year 12 – Year 13 (to AS and A)

Category II: Written Composition (Chinese GCSE, A-level exam related topics)

Age Group 1: Year 7 – Year 11 (to GCSE)
Age Group 2: Year 12 – Year 13 (to AS and A)

Please attach the comments from teachers for both homework and composition entries.

Competition entry deadline: 31 July 2008

Winners will be notified towards the end of Sept or beginning of October 2008. The winners' work will appear in the next issue of Chinese Learning and Teaching (October 2008).

Entries for both homework and composition categories must be submitted by teachers along with the name of the student, their class and year group, teacher, school, and contact details of the teacher to the London Confucius Institute at the following address. 伦敦孔子学院和汇丰银行教育基金会及英国文化委员会将联合举办2008年全英中学生汉语作业、汉语作文大赛。本大赛现在开始征集参赛作品，欢迎所有开设中文的中学学生踊跃参与。大赛内容等具体情况简要如下（请参照英文）。所有投稿件敬请有关老师按要求寄至伦敦孔子学院。

参赛组别

参赛内容：

作业： 平时作业，如抄写、造句、翻译等

作文： 平时作文或与GCSE、A LEVEL 中文考试相关作文即可

要求及评分标准：

作业： 1、书写工整、正确；2、语法基本准确；3、用词恰当；4、符合作业要求（请附作业要求及教师点评）；5、作业难度适中。

作文： 1、内容健康、积极向上，具有想象力，结构严谨；2、语法基本准确，用词妥当；3、行文流畅、自然；4、字迹清楚、工整；5、请附教师点评。

* 评选将根据年龄段及学生语言背景分别进行。

* 作业组和作文组分别设教师奖和学生一、二、三等奖及优胜奖若干名。获奖名单将在2008年10月初公布，获奖作品并将在今年秋季的《中文教与学》刊物上发表。
